Total Corbion PLA will be co-exhibiting together with parent company Total at K 2019.

The company will highlight its Luminy Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) portfolio and the most recent application innovations.

The Luminy PLA portfolio includes both high heat and standard grades and is used in a wide range of markets, from packaging to durable consumer goods and electronics.

Total Corbion PLA will be showcasing numerous partner applications based on PLA to illustrate the range of possibilities offered by this versatile biopolymer.

To showcase the heat capabilities of PLA, visitors can pick up a cup of coffee at the Total Corbion PLA booth, served in a PLA thermoformed cup.

The cups are available under the naturesse product range by Pacovis. The cups are biobased, made from renewable materials and have a reduced carbon footprint compared to PS cups.

PLA-lined paper cups, produced by EcNow Tech under their Earth Smart range, will also be on display. Featuring a PLA lining that can withstand boiling water, they are a sustainable alternative to the traditional PE-lined variety based on oil-based plastics. The cups have a lower carbon footprint and can be industrially composted after use.

Other high heat PLA applications on display at K 2019 include coffee capsules for Nespresso machines from ATI and tea bags from Nonwoven Network.

Pepsico and Danimer have developed a compostable PLA/PHA-based potato chip packaging for the Chilean market. PLA/PHA-based drinking straws from Danimer are another innovation that help reduce the environmental impact of plastics.

Other examples of PLA applications include single-use PLA aprons from Gaia, foamed ice cream packaging from Synprodo, compostable PLA food packaging from Bio4Pack, PLA non-woven applications from Yangtze and PLA toothbrushes from PolyAlloy.

PLA resins are made from annually renewable resources and are 100% biobased according to EN16785-1, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics.

In Hall 9, Booth B59, Vecoplan AG will be exhibiting machines and systems that shred, convey and process primary and secondary raw materials. Visitors will be able to get their first glimpse of a highly efficient shredder equipped with a flexible drive concept.

One of the key challenges facing today’s world is to maintain an environment worth living in for future generations. However, a future without plastics is barely conceivable and the downsides are visible everywhere – for example, in the form of uncollected waste that pollutes the land and the seas.

This can be prevented by means of correctly functioning recycling management. The demands on recycling activities are very exacting. The purer the material, the more easily it can be processed and used to produce new high-quality products. Thanks to its solutions, Vecoplan AG is part of this value chain and has been a successful, reliable partner to the recycling industry for many years. These solutions can be perfectly adapted to the technical characteristics of plastic and the downstream recycling process. They meet the high demands in terms of availability and profitability.

At K 2019, Vecoplan will be demonstrating a further milestone in mechanical processing to industry specialists in the form of a single-stage shredder from its new VIZ series (Vecoplan Infinity Shredders). The machine has been designed in such a way that, depending on the requirements, it can be equipped either with the high-torque, quick-start HiTorc drive from the proven VAZ or with the ESC, Vecoplan’s frequency-controlled, belt-type direct drive.

Both systems are patented and impress through their great energy efficiency. Visitors to the K will be able to find out more detailed information.

Vecoplan offers solutions for mechanical and chemical processing. The mechanical engineering company is thus represented at the VDMA Circular Economy Forum in Düsseldorf. ‘Plastic-to-fuel’ systems convert different types of waste plastic into diesel or petroleum fuel, for example.

Vecoplan provides the high-performance shredding technology required by these systems in order to process the input material appropriately.

Victrex, a UK-based leader in high-performance PEEK and PAEK polymer solutions, has achieved a new milestone for its automotive offerings.

Its gear design and manufacturing facility in Grantsburg, US, has received the IATF 16949 certification, proving that the necessary systems and capabilities are in place.

At the international K 2019 tradeshow in Düsseldorf, Germany, gear solutions will also be one focus at the Victrex booth (Hall 5, Booth B09).

Since 2015 Victrex has extended its material expertise to the design, development and manufacture of gears to offer a fully integrated and highly innovative approach to thermoplastic PEEK gear solutiond. . Enabling Tier 1/OEM customers to work with one partner from concept to commercialisation, the company supports the development and testing of high-precision VICTREX HPG-based gears, as well as manufacturing these gears as a component for integration into larger systems, e.g. within the engine, transmission, pump, actuator and chassis.

Automotive Director at Victrex Andy Walton said: “Attaining this certification was a major goal for us. It unequivocally demonstrates that Victrex has the quality systems and capability to supply turnkey PEEK gear solutions into the mainstream Tier1/OEM supply chain. A major European car manufacturer has already taken advantage of our gear design approach, as our ability to look at the whole system, not just the gear was invaluable. We are also working on numerous other programmes with global OEMs in other geographies, including the US.”

At K 2019 performance, power and progress will take centre stage at the Victrex booth, where several meet-the-expert sessions are scheduled.

    polymer & packaging news agency - www.ppna.ir

At the upcoming K 2019 show Victrex, a world-leader in high-performance polymer solutions, will be showcasing its recent solutions under the theme ‘The Element of Invention’.

Complementing the many pioneering innovations that followed the invention of PEEK thermoplastic over 40 years ago, the VICTREX PEEK and PAEK polymer-based portfolio on display will include innovative food grade, additive manufacturing, composite, film and gear solutions.

Ranging across leading industrial sectors, these products and the knowhow of Victrex contribute to solving material limitations in advanced applications, often replacing metals.

Victrex CEO Jakob Sigurdsson said: “The invention of PEEK polymer has clearly had a very positive impact across industries and, in fact, across the globe. We could never have imagined the continuous stream of innovation this high-performing versatile polymer would make possible. Visitors to the Victrex K 2019 show stand can look forward to pioneering new grades as well as exciting progress on forms and parts in critical applications where high-performance polymers deliver a strong advantage in the development of new markets.”

Victrex will also showcase new PAEK materials, including products developed for use in 3D printing: filament for filament fusion  (FF) or fine powder for laser sintering (LS). These new solutions deliver better results with improved mechanical properties in printed parts and easier printing than past attempts.

To speed the availability of 3D-printed PAEK parts, Victrex is investing in these new materials optimised for AM and pairing them with new machine technology in order to create integrated solutions.

The company is working directly with key industry partners and customers to build an AM PAEK eco-system.
